Charities launch fire victim appeals

31 Dec, 2001 08:13 AM

THE St Vincent de Paul Society is requesting monetary donations for the immediate provision of necessities such as blankets, mattresses, toiletries and essential new clothing, as well as long term assistance to those affected by the NSW bush fires.

“Whilst the society is thankful for people wanting to donate goods to those affected by the bush fires, an influx of goods at this time only causes logistical problems that interfere with our ability to provide responsive disaster relief,” a spokesman said.

“Consequently we are only seeking cash donations, which will allow us to immediately address the provision of these essential items for those affected by the bush fires.”

Credit card donations can be made by calling 13 18 12.

Donations can also be sent to: Bush Fire Appeal, St Vincent de Paul Society, P O Box 5, Petersham NSW 2049.

Wesley Mission has also launched an appeal to help victims of the devastating NSW bushfires.

Recognising that the immediate needs of emergency accommodation and food were being met, Wesley Mission is encouraging people to donate cash, clothing, and furniture so that in the weeks and months ahead, it can meet the on-going needs of victims.

Clothing can be deposited in any Wesley Mission clothing bin located at churches, community centres, shopping car parks and other public locations throughout Sydney and beyond.

The nearest Wesley Mission clothing bin can be found at www.wesleymission.org.au under Wesley Clothing.

Cash donations can be made by calling 1800 021 821 or by logging on to the Mission’s web site at www.wesleymission.org.au
