Chamber looking for a leader

28 Feb, 2001 09:21 AM
The Bowral Chamber of Commerce and Industry is on the lookout for new members.

Chamber president Helen Chadwick said she intended to stand down at Monday night’s meeting of the organisation, and wanted to see someone take over leadership of the group with the view to steering the Chamber for the next 12 months.

“Whoever chooses to take on the position will have many challenges ahead of them,’’ Mrs Chadwick said.

“With low economic growth, the Goods and Services Tax , the Business Activity Statement complications and customer service deficiencies, some businesses are, to some degree experiencing a lack of interest towards the chamber.’’

Mrs Chadwick said a not so surprising observation was that most of the successful businesses in the region have representation at the monthly chamber meetings.

“Being part of the chamber can be a rewarding experience - the opportunity to meet other people with similar interests, hear from a variety of guest speakers and be given the chance to attend seminars organised by the wider business community,’’ Mrs Chadwick said.

The association’s annual meeting is being held on Monday night at the Manning Hotel in Kangaloon Rd from 6pm.

Mrs Chadwick said any businesses in Bowral, whether retail, professional, builder, butcher or baker was welcome to attend.

Office bearers to be elected are president, two vice presidents, a treasurer and five committee members. The secretary’s position is to be confirmed by members.

Financial members of the chamber are eligible to vote or nominate for positions on the board.

Anyone with inquiries about Monday night’s meeting should contact Mrs Chadwick, tel. 4861 4466 or Jane tel. 4862 1334.
