Hiring private security, paying for a uniformed police officer to patrol the streets, or rostering business owners to monitor the street after hours were among suggested solutions to vandalism put forward by Moss Vale Chamber of Commerce members this week.
Camden Local Area Commander (LAC) Superintendent Greg Rolph attended Monday's night's meeting to discuss on-going security problems with around 30 chamber members.
The chamber has called for a more visible police presence in Moss Vale, especially after business hours, to deal with on-going vandalism including smashed shop windows and graffiti. Superintendent Rolph said the Camden LAC would work with Wingecarribee, Wollondilly and Camden councils to develop a strategy to deal with vandalism in the area.
Police also hoped to work with local youth in an attempt to resolve issues, he said. But Superintendent Rolph said while the Camden LAC was looking at tasking a police unit to the Moss Vale area, that did not mean that police would be rostered to walk the streets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
