The great divide between Moss Vale and Burradoo has been bridged with a new recreational path.
Walkers and cyclists from around the region came to christen the new Bong Bong track, which runs along the Wingecarribee River between the two towns, on Sunday with a day of outdoor activities.
The open day started off with a walk along the new path before finishing with a bike rally organised by the Southern Highlands Bicycle Users Group (SHBUG).
The day also saw the first annual Wiggle Waggle Walk, a 5km dog walking contest organised by local animal advocacy group Friends of the Shelter.
The 26km path has been many years in the making with talks of linking Moss Vale with Burradoo as a bridle track starting back in the 1980s.
The path first began to take shape when Wingecarribee Shire Council stopped developers from subdividing property right down to the Wingecarribee River so they could create an access point for the track.
Developer contribution funds kicked the project along and council also received funding from the RTA for the project when they decided to make the path a cycle track as well.
Mayor Phil Yeo said he was confident the long awaited track would be well used by the community.
"It's so accessible to such a significant amount of people in this shire," he said.
