THE centenary of Don Bradman’s birth continues to reap rewards for the Bradman Museum, who recently took possession of the ball that The Don hit his 100th ton with.
The ball is from the 1947 Australia-India Test match at the SCG, where Bradman hit his 100th first class century.
The donation was made by David Borwick, grandson of George Borwick, who umpired the historic match. Borwick secured the ball at the end of the match and presented it to Bradman.
Bradman Foundation Executive Director Rina Hore said Bradman famously declined the gift of the ball, preferring Borwick to enjoy the keepsake.
“This important piece of cricket history will now be appreciated by domestic and international cricket audiences at the Bradman Museum and contribute to the development of the International Cricket Hall of Fame,” Ms Hore said.
More than 50,000 cricket-loving Australians made an excited pilgrimage to the SCG 61 years ago to witness their favourite son, Don Bradman, reach another cricketing milestone.
In October, the Indians arrived in Australia for the first official Test series between the two countries.
