Bowral man fined for assault

27 Mar, 2006 07:15 AM
A 50-year-old man who punched a shop assistant in a liquor store and broke his tooth has been fined for assault.

Bowral businessman Robert Alexander Aird, of Lilac Avenue, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Moss Vale Local Court last week.

Magistrate Ian Guy fined Aird $600 plus $65 court costs for the offence.

The court heard Aird punched the victim while he was working as a shop assistant at the Woolworths liquor store in Bowral on February 11 this year.

The victim had been grabbing a case of beer for a customer when Aird's wife asked him about the price of some bottles.

The victim gave her a quick reply and returned to the cashier.

The woman then followed him and asked him again about the price, telling him "you need to get this right, it is not on special" at which point the victim replied "yeah whatever" and returned to his customer.

Aird then asked the shop assistant for his name, which he gave, but the victim became defensive when Aird asked where he lived, with the victim telling him it was "none of your f***ing business."
