'Booze' bus cause for celebration

29 Oct, 2007 07:13 AM
Berrima Buslines is urging people to think twice before any long, drunken walks home from the pub this summer.

Their Southern Highlands Summer Bus -- designed to reduce drink-driving, drink-walking, or drink-cycling -- is gearing up to provide late night transport on Friday and Saturday nights.

The bus is a road safety initiative from the RTA and South Eastern Illawarra Health, supported by local government, police and the local liquor industry.

The summer bus is designed to be easy and safe to use with a security guard, hourly services, standard bus fares and normal stops along the Moss Vale-to-Bowral and Mittagong-to-Bowral routes.

Berrima Buslines has designated a new bus for the service which has a low floor, digital surveillance, air-conditioning, and is wheelchair accessible.

The service starts on Friday, November 2 and runs Friday and Saturday evenings (as well as Christmas Eve) until January 5.

Timetable information is available from licensed venues on the route as well as from Berrima Buslines and the web site www.summerbus.com.au.
