Birds of a fly-away feather

24 Dec, 2008 02:19 PM
A BIRD in the hand is worth two in the bush, but four are even better.

Just ask Chris Harker.

Chris started December with two budgies, Spot and Bow.

When Bow escaped out of an open door, Chris spotted him in a tree in his neighbours’ garden but had to leave him to go to a dentists’ appointment.

With Bow lost, Chris brought another budgie, Momo, to keep Spot from pining.

But Momo pushed open the cage and flew away while Chris was at school.

Chris managed to track him through the streets of East Bowral for two hours, following the sound of his chirp, but other birds scared Momo away just as Chris was about to catch him.

With Spot once again alone, Chris bought an albino budgie, Snowy, to fill Momo’s empty perch.

Then three days after the budgies disappeared, Bowral resident Lisa Wilson discovered two budgies perched in her chook pen and placed a “Found” ad in the Southern Highland News classifieds section.
