"It heats up and kills the weeds and it's great for vegetables," Mr Murdoch said from atop a steaming pile of cow manure yesterday.

Local gardeners can test the quality of Wingecarribee Shire Council's finest fertiliser on Saturday, when the saleyards offers residents the chance to dig into its stockpile.

Residents can bring their truck and trailers between 7am and 1pm and take away cow manure for $15 a cubic metre.
