Three closed toilet blocks at Moss Vale Public School have raised community suspicions that the walls may contain asbestos.
The toilet blocks have been closed for a week while the school upgrades its toilet facilities.
A NSW Department of Education and Training spokeswoman said reports of the walls containing asbestos were unconfirmed.
“While the building contractors could not determine if the wall material contained asbestos, they did cordon off the area as a precaution while the materials were tested,” she said.
The spokeswoman said contractors discovered some of the walls were chipped and cracked, and they were currently working to remove the broken pieces.
“The well-being of students, staff and visitors at public schools are priorities for the department, which acts quickly when cases possibly involving the presence of asbestos arise.”
