The Sydney Catchment Authority has been forced to call in private security for the Kangaloon aquifer after vandals attacked borepipes during the early hours of Sunday morning.
A pipe was sawn through with a hacksaw or a saw blade and badly damaged by the vandals. Workmen and members of the public discovered the pipe, gushing water, on Monday morning.
But the cut was merely a machinery accident, which has resulted in a beat-up to discredit community groups, according to Robertson Environmental Protection Society member Denis Wilson, who saw the broken pipe on Monday morning.
