After entering in the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery prize last year, Green won the opportunity to host an exhibition of her own work, an opportunity she was not expecting.
“I put something in and forgot about it then someone said you’ve won and they could’ve bowled me over,” she said.
“Exhibiting an original gallery is huge for a student. It’s a big stepping stone.”
A dictionary definition of ‘Hyper Vigilance’ means an enhanced state of sensory sensitivity by an exaggerated intensity of behaviors whose purpose is to detect threats.
By choosing this title Green is both commenting and questioning the idea that people are hyper vigilant in the world today.
“The world has changed. Have we become invisibly wrapped and trapped with everything we do?” she said.
This has also brought a personal question into consideration.
“I have a 40 year old son and a 14 year old daughter that has brought up a comparison between my role as a mother of a young child in the 1960’s and 1970’s, compared to being a mother of a young child in the 21st century,” she said.
As a print maker artist using monotype and other forms, Green focuses on figurative and landscape subjects for her pieces.
The exhibition will display 37 pieces with every piece up for sale.
Head administrator for TAFE in the Illawarra region, Elizabeth Charles, will officially open the exhibition.
