 A time for giving

A time for giving

27 Nov, 2000 08:27 AM
The festive season is officially upon us - a time of joy, happiness and celebration.

For most of us that is.

For some members of our community, this time of the year is as difficult as any other - in some cases it’s harder.

The Salvation Army will distribute 150,000 food parcels and 250,000 toys to needy families this Christmas.

On Christmas day the Army will feed 8,000 people Christmas lunch.

The salvos Christmas appeal this year hopes to raise $7 million and they are asking residents here to help.

Another vital helper of the needy in our community is the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

Like the salvos, they busy themselves this time of year preparing to help the less fortunate.

Vinnies only have two public fundraising events each year and its Christmas appeal is one of them.

Their goal locally this year is $10,000. It’s not a lot but it will go some way in bringing some Christmas joy to children who would otherwise experience little Christmas cheer.

If you can help either organisation help others in our community, please do.

To make a donation to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal, call the national hotline on 13 32 30.
