A sight for sore eyes

27 Feb, 2006 08:46 AM
Students at Hill Top Public School had an addition to their school uniforms on Friday, wearing sunnies in an effort to raise funds for National Sunnies for Sight Day.

This was the first year the school has raised funds for the day organised by the International Centre for Eyecare Education (ICEE), with Years 5 and 6 teacher Dave Robertson suggesting the school get involved.

"We were approached by the foundation (ICEE) to do it as a worthwhile charity, which it is, helping to save sight around the world," Mr Robertson said.

"In a few years I reckon sunnies will be as important as 'Slip, Slop, Slap'."

Expecting to raise about $150 by the end of the day, Mr Robertson said those students among the 240 at Hill Top Public who chose to wear sunnies on Friday were asked to give a gold-coin donation to the ICEE.
