Moss Vale schools are well represented at the Sydney Easter Show. Moss Vale High School students, Ryan, Ashley and Caroline Morris, and their younger sister, Heidi, a Moss Vale Public School student are all working at the show.
They are taking responsibility for show Shorthorn stock from their family's Fitzroy Falls "Tallaganda" stud.
Despite the long hours and hard work each of the children rate it a great experience.
Each day they go through a busy early morning routine of feeding, watering, shampooing, blowdrying and brushing the cattle until their coasts shine. They also give the cattle leading practise so they are at ease in the judging ring.
Many of the public school students who showed cattle in school competition at the end of last week have been invited to stay on for the commercial cattle competitions.
The skills that they develop at school are in high demand from the commercial exhibitors. Both Ryan and Ashley undertake the Primary Industries vocational education course as part of their Higher School Certificate. As part of his course, Ryan is organising four Shorthorn steers that he will prepare to show for Moss Vale High School at the Gosford and Dubbo National steer shows. He is also a member of the school's sheep showing team. Ashley and Caroline hope they can follow in Ryan's footsteps and become part of the team next year.
