Moss Vale Public School principal Dennis Mudd is calling it quits after 20 years in the big chair at the school.
He is retiring on Friday after 41 years in classrooms across NSW.
"I've been going to school for 56 years and its time to grow up," he said.
"To work as a teacher, you need to have very high energy levels to match the kids.
"As you get older, no matter how fit you are, it just gets harder to keep up."
He said interaction with the kids and being able to help them grow was the best part of the job.
"Always you are in touch with the future – that's the excitement of being a teacher."
