3801 nears end of the line

26 Jun, 2006 09:39 AM
James Warren-Smith spent his sixth birthday on board the 3801 steam train, travelling on heritage carriages from Sydney to Wollongong.

"It's his sixth birthday president," said James' mother, Claire.

"He didn't want a party - he just wanted to go on the 3801. He loves it."

Sadly, this might be the last birthday James spends on the 3801.

The heritage-listed engine's regular trips to the Southern Highlands will end in November if the State Government refuses to renew its 20-year lease with the rail tour operator 3801 Limited.
