$200m boost from port expansion

The Moss Vale Intermodal and Logistics Hub will allow the Southern Highlands to share in a $200 million boost to the regional economy from the Port Kembla expansion.

Plans to turn Port Kembla into Australia's leading car import centre will create about 1000 jobs, Minister for Regional Development and Illawarra David Campbell said this week.

"Everything is on track for the transfer of the vehicle shipping trade and general containerised cargoes from Sydney Harbour to Port Kembla to be complete by 2008," he told Shipping Australia's NSW State committee luncheon in Wollongong on Wednesday.
