ARGYLE Community Housing has responded to claims its tenants in Sunset Point Drive Mittagong and Moss Vale are terrorising residents.
Argyle manages 603 properties in the Wingecarribee Shire but would not comment on specific problems in Mittagong or Moss Vale.
Executive development manager Brian Murnane said Argyle had an adequate complaints and conflict resolution process in place to deal with problem tenants.
“Like all community housing providers, Argyle Community Housing is responsible for the management of its properties and to ensure that tenants comply with the terms of their residential tenancy agreement,” he said.
“Like all landlords, community housing providers are subject to the legal process as legislated in the Residential Tenancies Act.
“All eviction orders, performance orders and other directives must be passed by the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal.
“As matters relating to the Mittagong issue are before the Tribunal and until such time as the Tribunal makes a decision on the tenants, I will not comment further.”
The chief complaint of residents in dense areas of Argyle Housing is that teenagers in the streets are running riot. Argyle Housing said it worked closely with state government agencies when dealing with troublesome tenants.
“Our client service staff liaise with the police and the local office of DoCS on a needs basis,” Mr Murnane said.
A Moss Vale woman has claimed Argyle refused to do repair work on her home but Mr Murnane said there was no outstanding maintenance work in the Highlands.
“The properties formerly managed by Housing NSW which have been transferred to Argyle have all been independently scoped to identify all backlog maintenance issues. The maintenance on all these properties has been completed,” he said.
“If a tenant requires maintenance for their property all they need to do is call our office during office hours or our 24-hour call centre on the emergency after hours number.
“Argyle employs a maintenance manager who is responsible for the tendering and selection of contractors. We also have staff to inspect the standard of work carried out by the contractors and ensure that the contractors have been courteous and respectful when working in our tenants homes.”
At least two Argyle Housing tenants in Sunset Point Drive are facing eviction. Argyle wouldn’t confirm how many of its tenants have breached their lease conditions or are in the process of being evicted.
